ANKARA (AFP) - The head of Iraq's interim administration Ahmed Chalabi shied away from inviting Turkish troops to Iraq -- a gesture that would have helped bolster Ankara's bid to join the US-led multinational peace-keeping force there.

He said, however, they "will continue to study" the prospect of a Turkish deployment, which has faced with harsh opposition in Baghdad. snip

But the plan, which has the backing of the United States, has triggered harsh objections in Baghdad, particularly from Iraqi Kurds who have tense relations with Ankara.
