Hoon criticised in Iraq report
So, Hoon takes the fall for Tony just as I predicted.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3098456.stm

Be sure to check this statement out.

"The report also says the document failed to make it clear that Saddam Hussein's regime was not considered a "current or imminent threat to mainland UK". "

Er? Tony would you like to explain this?

1. Teflon Tony won't have to explain
he'll slither out of this one too.

He's pissing me off hugely.

2. He always pisses me off
Did you catch his "There's no point in having a left wing Labour party" or some such rubbish the other day?

I'd like to meet Mr Blair and tell him what I think of him.

3. Cronies

Yes, but he'll only "take a fall" for a couple of years. Tony will have him back in a different capacity (See Peter Mandelson), unless the private defence consultancy stuff proves too lucrative, that is...

4. Hoon is dead in the water
But I suspect he will hang in there for as long as he can before he goes. It is noticable in the article how Intelligence and Security Committee chairman Ann Taylor (formerly in Blair's cabinet) is trying to cover his arse like a good little Blairite stooge. :grr:

ditto for Blair really, which is sad as we need a government we can trust and not a government of megalomaniacs and pathological liars.

5. The dreaded vote of confidence...
...has come, courtesy of Jack Straw.

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, addressing reporters following the report's publication, said: "I'm in no doubt the defense secretary should and will continue in his post. He has every confidence of the prime minister."

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/09/11/uk.report/

For those non-Brits, this classic "we have every confidence in him" statement comes from the board of a football club, when a manager is about to be sacked. It usually means he'll be sacked after the next game he loses - in this case, that would be the Hutton Report. It'll be useful to have someone who can resign then, to take the attention away from Blair.
