NATO should intervene in Iraq: Clinton
LONDON (AFP) - NATO (news - web sites) and European states should step forward to take part in rebuilding Iraq (news - web sites) to internationalize the reconstruction process, former US president Bill Clinton (news - web sites) urged at the "progressive governance" conference near London.

"I was trying to think about some way the international
community could come back together in the fight against terror.

"Europe should take the lead, the Iraq nation-building process should be internationalized. NATO should offer to go in. That will give United States a continued big position there," Clinton told the centre-left political gathering.

6. How does this help Bush???
The Bush administration doesn't want NATO or the UN there. He's not siding with them. Besides, the monkey may be digging his own grave as we speak.

10. Yeah
And stabilizing Iraq and helping the poor, thirsty, and hungry Iraqis has nothing to do with it.

Whatever.

3. And who will collect all the profits?
The U.S. wants to share the costs. Are they willing to share the profits?

5. What About Betchel and Halliburton, Clinton
How about leaving American Corporations out of Iraq so it doesn't look like we just did it for the money.

Sending in Nato or UN peacekeeping forces just isn't good enough.

It ignores the fact that Iraqis are smart enough to see that American interests are getting all the lucre or incharge of who gets it.

7. Here's a radical idea
let's invite NATO & the UN in...

then give some FOREIGN conglomerates a shot at reconstruction bidding. We could make peace with the old allies, probably save a bundle from competitive bidding, and give the occupation an international flavor so the Iraqis stop killing our soldiers.

Oh yeah...Haliburton and Bechtel wouldn't make all the profits...

Never mind.

9. You're so clever Bill,...
After the Bushies couldn't celebrate their "victory", let us share the disaster.
The Left will support you, 'cause you defend the UNO and the Nato and international right, the Neocons will love you, 'cause you offer them an easy way out.
I'm just waiting for a definition of international right that equals your definition of sex, the latter was funny.
Greetings from Germany,
Dirk

12. It would violate NATO's Charter to intervene in Iraq
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 08:04 PM by IndianaGreen
as it did when Clinton coerced it to go to war against Serbia.

NATO is a defensive alliance. The only aggressor in here is the US.

Big Dog should stop trying to hog the spotlight from the Democratic candidates for President.

If Big Dog is worried so much about human life, he should call for the repeal of Plan Colombia and for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

Sometimes I wonder if the only reason Clinton opposed the war in Vietnam was because sex was easy to get with the antiwar crowd of that day.

14. Get off the Clinton bashing
No one can appeal to all the people all the time, but I will take Clinton over this * anyday and whether some of us want to believe it or not there are quite a few voters out there that have alot of respect for the Big Dog, remember Gore won the popular vote. Some voters do listen when the Big Dog speaks and that does transform to a plus for the Dem party.
