SPAIN CUTS FINE ON GREENPEACE`S RAINBOW WARRIOR

Madrid - Spain has slashed a fine imposed on Greenpeace, bowing to pressure from the environmental group whose flagship has been held in port since activists staged a protest against illegal imports of African timber.

Spain, which has been holding the Rainbow Warrior in the southeastern port of Valencia since June 13, cut the fine to 6,000 euro (about $7,000) from 300,000, Greenpeace said on Friday. The ship was seized after four Greenpeace activists chained themselves to a ship bringing wood from rainforests in Cameroon to try to stop it entering Valencia`s harbour. (MORE)
