Bush Says He Has Faith in CIA Director

ABUJA, Nigeria - President Bush said Saturday he still has faith in his intelligence chief after CIA Director George Tenet accepted blame for Bush's erroneous claim about Iraqi weapons.

Fueled by members of Congress and Democratic presidential hopefuls, the 16-word miscue in Bush's Jan. 28 State of the Union speech has turned into a firestorm of skepticism challenging the credibility of one of the president's primary justifications for the war — that Iraq was trying to reconstitute its nuclear weapons program.

Asked in Nigeria whether he continued to trust Tenet, Bush said, "Yes, I do. Absolutely."

"I've got confidence in George Tenet," he added.

The issue dogged Bush throughout his five-day trip to Africa, leading the White House to execute a well-scripted, two-day mea culpa seeking to quell the political uproar.

5. He should as Tenet to prove the "Iraq/Al Qaeda" connection
Tenet is already a proven liar. Of course Bush has faith in him.

7. another big one to swallow
This time with a circle of blame, all fingers pointing, one comes forward takes blame. Then another of the suspect-blamers "absolves" him with no punishment. Case closed. Move on. This is called full circle disclosure. Gee. Why not just appoint Bush God so he won't have to embarasshimself by performing cheap tricks to a populace that thinks they have a "democracy"?

Not even Nixon insulted our intelligence this badly.

8. Fredo, you broke my heart.
Well, they can't fire him, because the rank-and-file spooks'll gush the pandora's box of true evils about these guys, knowing how expendable they must be.

If he doesn't get fired, Junior's a weakling, an idiot or a liar. (Pick any three, we're having a blue-blood special today...)

If he gets all pissy, it'll just be an embarrassment.

The Tenet statement still underlines the truth that they were having to have various unprovables taken from their accusations on a constant basis.

"It's their job to keep me from my continuous reckless accusations--what a bunch of idiots--yet I have full confidence in him. Since my ability to discern is beneath laughability, we need him."

It's just poppycock. The more anyone hears, the more obvious the essence of deception is.

Tenet's in a rough spot, though. He has to keep taking it and having his reputation destroyed because his only "out" is to show how evil they are and hope he can claim that he's just realizing it. To just be figuring out huge complex and enduring patterns ain't much of a claim for an intel guy to make.

All the way. They have to be pursued all the way. There need to be criminal actions. Even if a 2/3rds of the Senate conviction vote is probably unattainable, impeachment will bring out the enablers.

We could see the ruining of many nasty thugs in the public life. That can't hurt.

Call it a deterrent.

9. This is a tactic Bush has used before--

It is designed to make himself look gracious. He did the same thing
with ex Treasury Sec, and anyone else who was taking flak at the
time--like Powell. He puts himself "above" the fray.

The fact is that the unwritten rule is " bite the bullet, always
support the President"--no matter what. The Poison Pill, it is
also called.
