MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - The 14-year-old son of NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol was presumed dead Monday in a chartered jet that crashed while taking off in light snow and fog.

Ebersol and his oldest son emerged on their own from the wreckage of the 18-seat aircraft, which crashed Sunday morning after leaving Montrose Regional Airport in southwest Colorado, not far from the Telluride Ski Area. Two crew members were also killed but a third survived.

The plane slid sideways into a road and the impact ripped the cockpit from the fuselage, and Ebersol's 21-year-old son Charles helped his 57-year-old father through the gap, a witness said.

Matt Eilts, Montrose County chief deputy coroner, said Monday that a ``complete and thorough search'' revealed no sign of the second son on the plane, 14-year-old Edward, anywhere around the crash site.

1. Small plane crash. One of few Dems in big media. Assassination attempt?

NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol is a very active Democrat, having donated to the campaigns or political committees of Wesley Clark, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., and Dodd.

7. Early Reports are the plane was not deiced
And the copilot survived though he is in critical condition. This one sounds a bit like the Air Florida crash that went in to the Potomac in DC right after takeoff on a wintry day.

If the copilot survived he can hopefully provide info.

Anyone know if this plane would've carried black boxes?

Airport Manager Scott Brownlee said he did not know whether the plane had been deiced. He said deicing would have been the pilot’s decision, but he said at least one commercial jet had deiced before taking off Sunday.

5. Horrible and sad :(
Olbermann did a nice blog tribute to Ebersol today. Seemed to me there was a little bit of anger in his writing.

3. My guess is time travelers, coming from the future.
Mick Jagger is one of them; they kidnap people from planes about to crash and replace them with dead people from the future. Something must have gone wrong and they forgot to replace this one.

I saw this all on a documentary called "Freejack City."

6. There must by a typo from the original article, it reads ....
"Monday November 29, 2004 8:46 PM" which of course hasn't happened yet. Yeah! I know NBC, Ebersol, Olberman and NBC sports! Go figure!
