Seventeen more bodies found in Mosul: US military (57 total!)

MOSUL, Iraq - Seventeen more bodies were found in Mosul, a US military spokesman said Sunday, bringing to almost 60 the number of men executed and dumped on the streets of the northern city in the past 10 days.

“There were 17 bodies discovered on Saturday -- in addition to the 15 discovered the day prior,” Lieutenant Colonel Paul Hastings told AFP.

“All unidentified and located in western Mosul.”

This brought to at least 57 the number of bodies, mostly belonging to members of Iraq’s security forces, found in the city since November 19.

The head of the city’s Joint Coordination Centre, a rapid reaction unit grouping Iraqi and US forces, said the bodies were all found dumped in a cemetery in the Wadi al-Aqat area on the city’s western fringes

4. Al-Zarqawi's Group Claims Mosul Killings
~snip~

A statement posted on an Islamist Web site in the name of al-Qaida in Iraq, led by Jordanian terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, claimed responsibility for killing 17 members of Iraq's security forces and a Kurdish militiaman in Mosul, where insurgents rose up this month in support of guerrillas facing a U.S.-led assault in Fallujah.

~snip~

At least 50 people have been killed in Mosul in the past 10 days. Most of the victims are believed to have been supporters of Iraq's interim government or members of its fledgling security forces.

~snip~

Al-Zarqawi and the city's two major Iraqi insurgent leaders, Sheik Abdullah al-Janabi and Omar Hadid, apparently escaped the onslaught and remain at large. Before the assault, U.S. intelligence officers speculated that al-Zarqawi would try to relocate to Mosul if he lost his base in Fallujah.

5. Abu Musab al-Goldstein sure stays busy.
Impressive for a probably-already-dead one-legged man!

10. Some people fail to see that some Iraqis are really evil
and that there is indeed an Al-Qaeda presence in Iraq. I guess it is better to idolize all guerrillas as "freedom fighters" while ignoring their butchery of fellow Iraqi innocents, including Margaret Hassan.

Our Occupation of Iraq is evil, but that does not turn into saints some of the criminals and terrorists that our troops must now fight.

11. You are right about that.
I have had heated discussions on this board with people who almost reflexively insist Iraqi resisters are like George Washington and his Continental Army. Some probably do want what they think is best for Iraq and others probably care only for enriching themselves.

12. Gosh, that's alot like here at home.
Sociopaths seem to rise to the top in areas where they are unrestrained by laws. for example:

Iraq

Serbia

US Corporate structure

13. I've seen no proof to date...
That 'al-qaeda' is operating in Iraq. I've seen no proof Al-Zarqawi is actually alive OR in Iraq. Nor have I seen a single 'expert' (none worthy of our respect anyway) posit that his relationship to Al-Q is anything more than tangential.

Sure, we all decry the killing of innocents and condemn those who do so. But the fact is, this is a civil war. It's almost certain that innocents died in our own civil war, many killed by the Yankees, of course. Yet, we don't condemn the Yankees for killing innocents in THAT cause, do we?

And as far as this 'story' goes, I have to ask myself: WHY are their NO PICTURES of these things? Some pics of these cars, in-situ at the mosque, taken by a source I actually trust (i.e. NOT anybody associated with 'coalition' forces) would go a long way toward convincing me this is true. Not saying it ISN'T, but I think y'all catch my drift.

Furthermore, I think if the USA were occupied by Islamic forces, the fundies of this country would run to the churches for cover, stock them w/weapons and car bombs in about a New York Minute. It's kind of a natural reaction if you think about it...

Always two sides, that's all I'm gettin' at, IG...
