LA U.S. House runoff too close to call
http://nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-2/110119863762010.xml

LAFAYETTE -- In this unofficial capital of Acadiana, Democratic and Republican operatives are fully engaged in an old-fashioned, toe-to-toe political slugfest to capture the 7th Congressional District seat of U.S. Rep. Chris John, D-Crowley, one of two such posts in the nation still up for grabs.

Most political pundits see the Dec. 4 runoff as too close to call. It pits Republican front-runner Dr. Charles Boustany of Lafayette, a political novice who gave up a lucrative practice as a heart surgeon to make the race, against former Lake Charles Mayor and two-term state Sen. Willie Mount, a Democrat.

*NOTE* DCCC is recruiting volunteers for LA 3rd and 7th District.

1. Too close to call??
I wish that would be the case - but I live in Lafayette, La. and it does not look good. The third person in this race (a Democrat) is NOT supporting his fellow Democrat.

I hope I am wrong:freak:

3. NO. and Laf. La. Dem is right
"Sen. Donald Cravins, D-Arnaudville, the only African-American in the Nov. 2 race, failed to make the runoff by fewer than 1,700 votes. He's still seething at the state Democratic Party for its role in mailing out to about 100,000 black voters a "Unity Ballot" -- featuring images of African-American soldiers, workers and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. -- supporting Mount in the primary and omitting him.

Cravins has threatened to sue the Democratic Party for allegedly "misleading voters." To make matters worse for the party, Cravins said he will not endorse either candidate in the runoff, a stand that political observers say could be the potential death blow for Mount's candidacy, which needs some of his African-American backers to win.

Cravins said he will study the platforms of Boustany and Mount and vote accordingly, but conceded there is a "good chance I could vote for Boustany," whose family has long been active in providing health care and help to low-income citizens."

From what I heard it Mount is running on a "pro-life, pro-guns" platform. I really don't understand this but I guess I hope she wins since she's got a D next to her name.
