Rossi picks up 26 votes in recount
KENNETH P. VOGEL; The News Tribune
Last updated: November 23rd, 2004 02:35 AM (PST)

As the political parties bickered in the courts and through the media, recount results trickled in Monday with little change in the narrow difference separating the candidates in Washington’s governor’s race.

While election workers systematically examined ballots for uncounted write-in votes, elections veterans said larger swings can stem from discovering isolated human errors that could have ignored or double-counted hundreds of votes.

Nothing like that has turned up yet.

With 24 counties posting recount results by Monday evening, Republican candidate Dino Rossi, who finished ahead of Democrat Christine Gregoire by 261 votes out of 2.8 million counted after the first count, padded his margin by 26 votes.

5. The good news is...
The good news is that so far, by a ratio of about 20:3, they've mostly counted the little right-wing counties.

They haven't counted King, Pierce or Snohomish counties yet. Pierce and Snohomish went to Rossi, however boo-boos often tend to favor Democrats, (which is why Rossi didn't want them counted).

6. This is what I want to see, perspective on Radical Fringe vs. Dems
When they start recounting Dem strongholds, I'll sit up and pay attention.

Washington is my neighbor and I hate to think of Rossi being there, because Washington and Oregon interact with one another to a great degree, especially as close to the border as I am with them.

7. King County has said it won't release partial figures
on the semi-hand recount that is going on now. I believe they announced they should have results tomorrow.

8. i hope there's a hand recount, too.
i want rossi's victory delayed until the 12th of never.

the nihilist in me says fine, elect bush & rossi, raise gas to $4/gallon, & let the real estate market collapse. it will be 4 years of hell that washington exurbanites will never forget.

9. The votes counted so far represent roughly 25% of total
There are still plenty to count. And don't worry about not having any voting to talk about in December--I am just about certain there will be a hand recount after this one is done....
