Chirac unsure world is safer after Saddam

Big News Network.com Thursday 18th November, 2004

French President Jacques Chirac says he is not at all sure Saddam Hussein's removal has made the world safer.

In an interview with the BBC ahead of his visit to London Thursday, Chirac said the situation in Iraq had no doubt contributed to an increase in terrorism.

"The departure of Hussein was positive to a certain extent," Chirac said. "But it also provoked reactions, such as the mobilization in a number of countries, of men and women of Islam, which has made the world more dangerous."
