You're right on both counts. Unfortunately, in our culture -- for good or ill -- a person who is overweight is often marginalized and judged by their appearance long before any other aspects of their character is known.


Human nature being what it is, it's been my long held observation that Conservatives are obsessed by imagery. There is a tilt to the shallow image of a Hollywood movie character more than the actual substance of their postions. The uniform big hairdo, cowboy boots, tin lapel pin, and spiffy wardrobe, all helps create the illusion of a new "Superman" or "Captain America", a mighty herothe imagine will save the day.


The question is; can the average rightwing voter cope with the mental image of Chris Christie in a cape and spandex tights?
