Yes, he made these comments to the CBC. And in many ways these words were inspirational, as he often is.
Now, I did find it suspect that on the broadcast I heard it sounded like someone was actually turning up the volume of the applause in an artificial way. I would like to hear from someone who was there or who knows for sure - was there a lot of applause or not?
I am not Black. But I voted for someone who I thought was Black, and I meant it.
I do find it a little insulting that President Obama, who has specialized in giving away many of the things that people in that audience fought for, would counsel them to "stop complaining". Yes, he is right, that we all have to keep keeping on, in order to see Progressive action of any kind. But it's a lot easier if you do this all the time, instead of when it's simply expedient, instead of when you need the people you have been insulting for so long. It's a little insulting to say this to people who faced dogs and police and worse in their fight for civil rights, I can tell you that. I feel insulted that he would take that tack with them.
And I am totally on the side of the CBC in holding his feet to the fire, as he claimed he wanted us to do. Perhaps he's got very tough feet, but he should at least feel some of the heat by now. And I hope he opens up and becomes the Super Obama we all would dream of.
I was thinking on Black music today, which remains one of America's greatest products and greatest exports, along with the founding principles. And it made me realize that the founding principles talk about "We, the People", back before corporations even had the nuts to claim they were people. And I thought how perhaps the greatest traits of Black music are its honesty, its heart, and its soul. Brother, I do wish that President Obama would dip into that honesty and heart and soul and quit playing footsie and patty cake with Republic lite ideas such as those promoted and propagated by that liar Ronald Reagan!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then we'd have something to support. Then we'd have something to talk about.
