...old as slavery. It's not a pure "coon" stereotype but rather a mixture of several different ones, including liberal stereotypes that I've seen him quoted using. You can learn more about the "coon" stereotype and other stereotypes here at the Jim Crowe museum online. This place is invaluable for reading into the dogwhistle caricatures that people like Rush use.

Seriously.

Look at this cartoon, probably something Rush fans would "get" but that bears no resemblance in any way to Michelle Obama:

She's not fat, she doesn't do anything like that...

It's because they're shoving her into a stereotype- a sort of angry "mammy"/"coon" combo. Dogwhistle caricatures like this are a racist's bread and butter.

Or this one, which is sort of a "coon in position of power" with a little "black brute" thrown in. Note the agressive stance, the white victim and the pearls and eyeshadow:

Those elements just don't fall into a cartoon by mistake.

Call 'em what they are: Racist.

And learn the Crowe-era stereotypes, be at least able to spot them generally. You would be amazingly surprised just how prevalent these racist stereotypes are, today.
