6. It is a lot worse then what you think

Republican control the NY State Senate, so any redistricting plan has to have GOP support. NY is losing two congressional seats, so the assumption is that there will be a compromise where one Democratic district and one Republican district will be eliminated. If Wepran had won, his district would likely had been eliminated as would an upstate Republican one. Now that the 9th is a GOP district, Democrats will have to put a different district on the chopping block.
