71. I watched most of it. It was quite beautiful. Some of the comments here are frankly disturbing.
These were ordinary people of all races, religions, ethnic backgrounds, political leanings and income levels who died. My own husband missed being in the World Trade Center when the first plane hit by about ten minutes. The people who honored them were family members and friends. Yes there were politicians of both parties there who spoke briefly.

New Jersey lost many people that day. It was appropriate for their current elected leader to speak just as it was appropriate for New York's elected leader, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, to speak. Their comments were brief and appropriate and believe me I am no fan of Chris Christie and I despise George W. Bush and the disaster he used 9/11 to lead us into just as much as any of you.

To me liberals who act so cool, so above it all, so snide, so elitist (and LynneSin, I'm talking about some other people on this thread and others who have been sounding like this has been one big GOPfest and celebration of George W. Bush, and not you) are just as bad as the war mongering conservatives who use this attack to pound home their hatred of Muslims and further their political advantage.

If you didn't watch it that's fine. If a non-sectarian, apolitical ceremony is anathema to you I suppose that's your business, but there's no reason to disparage the people who lost their families in a public Internet forum.

This may be a perfect example of why so many ordinary Americans hate self-described liberals.
