(NewsCore) - Libya's transitional government has rejected an attempt by Moussa Koussa, the former foreign minister, to take a role in the new administration in Tripoli, The (London) Times reported Thursday.

Sources in London and Qatar, where Koussa is living in exile, said Wednesday that overtures from Colonel Moammar Gadhafi's former intelligence chief about a return to top-flight politics had been rebuffed by Libya's Transitional National Council (TNC).

Koussa fled Tripoli for Britain in March, landing in a private jet at Farnborough after escaping by car across the Libyan border to Tunisia. After questioning by British police and intelligence officers over his alleged role in the Lockerbie bombing, he flew to Qatar in April.

Sources in Doha, the Qatari capital, confirmed Wednesday that Koussa was still assisting NATO with security operations in Libya, including guiding military strikes against logistical targets of the Gadhafi regime.

The former minister is living in the city's Four Seasons hotel, where he has been visited regularly by his sons. Qatar is picking up the tab, with his stay in the country sanctioned from the top by Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani.
