This is now an open seat with Dr Tom Hayhurst the presumed nominee for the remaining term as well as the official candidate for the fall election. While the Republicans now have to start totally from scratch and there are a whole slew of wannabees that are going to throw their hat in. Some that didn't for the primary because they wouldn't go against Souder. The primary was a hard fought primary that Souder had not experienced in a while which had to drain his campaign of funds. The main challenger also spent a lot for the primary. In addition, there was probably some major friction between the two camps. And likely to be even more when they have the special election.
