This truism -- and even more so, the cultural currency it enjoys-- pisses me off righteously.

I've been hot, and due to childhood disease, I've been *ahem* "not", and I can declare from experience, that it is not pleasant to be a plain or unattractive girl (especially if you're timid, which I was).

hmmm now that I think about it, the fear/timidity seems to be an especially tempting lure for bullies, regardless of appearance....
