71. The definition of "canned hunt" is farm-raised game hunted on the "farm."
As I said earlier, I think the difference between farm raised and captured game is semantic, when it comes to defining types of hunting. Either way, the game is restricted by fencing.

Either way is not sporting, and is unethical, in my opinion. But then, I think hunting for any purpose other than putting meat on the table is unethical.

FTIW, I live in a region populated by hunters and game. Half of my class is gone for the opening week of deer season every fall. None of my neighbors, colleagues, friends, or students participate in canned hunts of any sort. They simply head to one of the national forests within an hour's drive from town. As a matter of fact, since I live on the edge of blm, I don't ride my horses out during October. While the hunters are careful and I wear orange, there are enough of them, and enough guns going off, to make me nervous. It's a little nerve wracking to hear shots going off on all sides, even when they are a reasonable distance away.

Neither do they "bait" deer or elk. I asked a colleague about that once; he laughed and said, "Oh, it's legal. It just doesn't work. Nobody who expects to come home with a deer tries to bait them."
