30. There hasn't been an organized Left in this country since the 30s.

I have no idea what people think "Left" means anymore. It's almost completely useless to even try to talk about it.

I've been on DU since a few months after its inception and over the years I've seen countless people proclaim themselves "Leftists" who would merely pass as moderate Republicans back in the 50s.

The worst is all the people who think that being a "Liberal" makes them "Left". It's such total crap it makes me literally sick.

There's no Left in this country aside from a few indivicual faint echoes like Pete Seger.

There's no Emma Goldmans, no Eugene Debs, no W.E.B. Dubois, no Wobblies, no Fightin' Bob LaFolletes. There's nothing but a bunch of well-fed bourgeousie (sorry about the spelling if it's wrong) who think being socially liberal is quite daring.

And as long as there's no organized movement completely divorced from, and unbeholden to the Democratic party, there will be no Left. Partisan electoral politics has totally co-opted any possible leftward activism in this country. Everyone has been tamed and well-trained to kowtow to Party politics above all other considerations.

Feh!
