Former Michigan Heisman-winner Charles Woodson puts money where his heart is

While Charles Woodson was growing up in Fremont, Ohio, he knew his family had very little.

So as he watched his mother, Georgia, take care of those around her, he soaked in the lesson.

More than two decades later, Woodson is a man of means after 11-plus years in the NFL. He'll play for the Packers against the Lions today at Ford Field.

He didn't forget Georgia's lessons, either. The former Michigan football player who won the 1997 Heisman Trophy and led the Wolverines to a national championship is expected to announce a $2-million donation to the new University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

"What I'm doing is who she was, who she is," Woodson recently said about the gift. "I don't think she sees it as anything big; she sees it as that's who I am, that's my son. My mom was always that way. She was always giving, whether she had it or didn't have it. She was always trying to help somebody else out."
