6. Salvation Army feeds a lot of families
in this area. A few years ago they brought me a Thanksgiving basket after I got out of the hospital; they just showed up at my door and presented it. They didn't ask anything about me, but they did wish me "Happy Thanksgiving." It was good food, it wasn't poisoned, it didn't turn me into a Republican. I very much appreciated it. Hunger has no political affiliation.

The progressive organizations in which I'm very active are pleased to accept my time in lieu of the financial contributions I wish I could make. And most of them aren't set up with kitchens for preparing and serving meals for large numbers. So, this time of year when it's cold outside, I drop a few pennies - and I do mean pennies - to help them feed the hungry. I wish I could do more.
