This happened with me with Citibank. I was always on time with my payments, they increased the rates several times and then suddenly, I was informed that my credit line was being reduced to ..... the amount of my current balance. I closed the account and am paying it off.

You need to open another credit card account (preferably, as another person suggested, through a credit union) before they cut the credit line off by merely lowering your credit line to whatever your current balance owed is because when they lower the credit line, that will send your credit rating down.
