I think many of them have been for a long time. What else can you call such an insistent belief in things which are provably wrong? I don't mean stuff that reasonable people can disagree on like the nature or existence of God or whether the state should fund scientific research that is not obviously profitable. Those are reasonable disagreements and we could have a discussion about them. I'm talking about believing stuff which is provably, factually wrong like "evolution never happened" or "we found WMDs in Iraq". What else can you call that but insanity?
