Although I don't have anyone on Ignore, it's not something that I take as a point of pride, nor something that compels me to think that those who do use it are "afraid of opposing viewpoints".

Heck.. I know there are many people on DU who are generally uncivil, and sometimes downright nasty for its own sake, or just like to cause trouble, or posters who simply think they're brighter than most other people ( :hi: ), and I can fully empathize with anyone who puts those particular type of posters on Ignore.

And to be honest, I've actually been tempted a few times to use the function; but far more often than not, many threads began to lose context when I actually did try it out on lark, and I had a difficult time making sense of what was going on.

But in the end, get a visceral satisfaction watching those posters attempt to prove themselves to the world and ultimately crash in burn-- it's my Guilty DU Pleasure.
