You don't have to do that.

I would hate to have people calling the cops on me simply because I canvassed a neighborhood for a Democratic candidate. In fact I had a cop flip on his blue lights on me one time because I was canvassing for a state house candidate and he didn't think I belonged in the neighborhood. He got to see my driver's license, I got to get his badge number. He called dispatch - I called campaign HQ (the candidate actually) and apparently dispatch told him to back the F off cause he gave me back my license, turned off his lights and went away and left me alone to finish the street.
