9. I am so glad you returned. Some of my good childhood friends
did not. I felt guilty that I was never able to serve. I was drafted in 1967 and was within a week of basic when the Department of Defense declared me 1Y. I was in school but I thought I would go any way. They eventually mad me a 4F. I can only guess it was related to a medical problem I had when I was very young. I have felt guilt because so many friends did not come back.

My family was not wealthy and I didn't have someone to pull strings for me. It's still kind of a mystery to me.
