classify it as science fiction rather than more-mainstream literary fiction--though it's controversial whether it's really "writing" at all...
besides being populated solely by chubby Communists, Aryanesque plutocrats, and faceless, formless proles, the United States of Randroidia is totally economically isolated (from a world that's all Commie and thus diseased, starving, and presumed darker-skinned) and its Transcontinental Railway was unwanted by all--except the heroine's ancestor and his stockholders. Not a single real person is mentioned in her galloping monstrosities.
At least a real-life sensory-deprivation chamber lets you experience things different from the usual--and you won't come out sobbing that Bob Murray has to deal with gub'mint regulators in his capital-hallowed mines.
