4. What schism does
is twofold in weakening a mainstream denomination's voice and gaining a full throttle RW splinter that can step over the grave of unity up to the Bush bought microphones and money giveaways. The only minor breakaways in the Catholic Church for example are the angry RW "traditionalists". The voice of the American Catholic Church is already weakened by this political and nutty pull from the right.

But most of all, with an already foolishly divided Christian Church whose Ecumenical councils like the WCC are the least noticed, schism keeps dividing and conquering true Christian values and identity so that manipulators can change anything at all, even basic doctrine, at the will of huckster politicians.
Like libertarians fearing big government- with some rational basis- the Christians have castrated unity to avoid what will be sown into their communities anyway. Oppression, error, discord, and complete absorption into a tyrannical secular state. Oddly when some Reformation Christians say Rome they mean the Papacy. But the real Rome is the World and the World in all its materialistic cynicism and power is winning with wedges and dumbing down, brutalizing the moral competitor into a caricature.
