and other than emercency care, you probably cannot "just go to the doctor" in any country with socialized medicine.. There HAS to be an ID card that entitles YOU to get the care..otherwise ineligible people would/will flock to that country to get the care, without having paid taxes to cover their share of the expense..

It's the same reason why Moms make meals for their families and don't expect strangers to show up at the dinner table, demanding to be fed :)
