Just got back from the Mark Knopfler concert in Köln--just TRY to destroy my good mood! [View All]

I have to get up in 4 and a half hours to go to work down in France tomorrow, but for
now, I'm flying so high, you couldn't bring me down if you told me Barack Obama had
accepted John McCain's offer to run as his VP.

Knopfler had a brilliant band behind him, including a guy on violin and flute that
added a LOT to the sound, especially when doing stuff from his newest album as well
as some of the best from the Sailing to Philadelphia album. He then switched gears
and went back to the early Dire Straits days and did Romeo and Juliet, Sultans of
Swing, and ended with a dynamite Telegraph Road. The encore went on for FOUR songs,
although they were tired. All four encore songs, started by Brothers in Arms, were slow,
and the last one was instrumental.

We just got back from America this morning, so we're completely zapped, and I have to be
in Paris in less than 11 hours, but if I manage to come down enough to get more than
3 hours' sleep tonight, it'll be a miracle. Two night ago in the company of my two
political heroes in New York, and tonight listening to one of my two musical heroes
(the other is Leo Kottke)in the Rheinland. I'll take some sleeplessness into account for that.
