2. Britehorn, your snark is great however. . .
There are many of us who simply are not or do not celebrate these holidays, Thanksgiving is for family gathering, there are many with no families within reach to gather with. Regarding Christmas, some of us don't recognize religions or the related holidays....

I for one am thankful that I can go to bowling alley, the store, the theaters, and so on rather than set around at home feeling depressed and isolated because anyone else who might want company is forced to stay at home isolated and depressed.

Furthermore, things like theaters are a godsend on holidays when one has children or children are part of the gathering. By mid to late afternoon, they are usually antsy, tired of football on the tv. It was almost a ritual for the non-football spectators to take the children to the movies back in the day when they were still children.

For grocers and such, sometimes cooks have all they need and just screw up, should they be forced to present a screwed up dinner because the grocers are closed? Or perhaps someone shows up with a special need that requires an unexpected change to the menu.

Just saying, if they didn't have the business, (ie someone either needed or wanted their services or products) they wouldn't stay open. And being part of the group(s) that partake in the utilization of many businesses open on holidays, I resent the idea that you think they should all close and those employees don't get paid for that day, and I get stuck at home.
