sudden sensorineural hearing loss

I was so glad to find this forum and looking forward to your input! My son had a congenital hearing loss - slight in left ear, more so in right ear where he could just hear the lower sounds. However, its been very consistent over the years - hes 16 now. A couple of months ago he had a virus for 2 days which produced a fever the maximum I was able to detect was 102.8. When he felt better he went to wrestling practice - after wrestling practice he lost hearing completely in his right ear. Went to emergency - they saw fluid and said come back in 6 weeks which we did when his hearing did not improve. We've seen an ENT and he has ordered a cat scan and blood tests. At first I thought it was the virus but now I'm thinking it could have been the wrestling as these guys get cauliflower ear all the time. If its the virus then most likely its permanent loss - if its damage to the cochlea via wrestling - then is there surgery that can help? I know you all are not doctors but I appreciate your input - I have to wait till the end of the month to find out whats possible.
