10. Case of Connecticut
The (R) governor was unpopular and corrupt as hell. It's a blue state, and if we had just let him languish in office he likely would have likely been replaced by a Democrat (even assuming he does not run again). But no, he was forced to resign, only to be replaced by Jodi Rell, a wishy washy northeastern Republican. Now she's the most popular governor in the country and is a shoe-in for election this year.
