people aren't as open about their racism as they used to be becasue they know people don't tolerate that shit.

EDIT: personal story. I worked in a store where I was supervising cashiers, and I had some guy come up and complain to me and demand to see the manager. Apparently he had reffered to another customer (out of earshot) as a nigger, and assumed the white cashier would appreciate the comment. She didn't, and she told him she would not finish the transaction as long as he used that language around her.

Of course, I found that out while he was recounting his angry story to the manager.

My manager asked him to leave.
