they sense that the tide may be turning against the Republicans who have allowed the gasoline companies to gain record unfettered profits with no oversight (anybody remember that oil pipeline that was leaking in Alaska? Will that be shut down 11/8?), and that the government might actually have a hearing (or hearings) more substantial than "Hi, how ya doin'? You aren't manipulating prices, are you? No? Good. Gee, isn't it nice that you cannot be held to your statements, and that you weren't forced to swear before God that you're telling the truth?"
