In 1789, a handful of brilliant men came together, wrote the Constitution of the United States and formed the world's longest lived democracy. Six years ago, a handful of evil men stole the country and immediately started down the road to destroy it.

The U.S. was never a blameless, innocent Utopia. There was land stolen from Native Americans, Mexicans and others, slavery, assassinations of foreign leaders, and wars for land or ideology. But when it's all added up, this country has produced more good in the world than most previous nations of power. And it was the dream of countless people on this planet to come here, my own forebears included.

In 2000 a stolen election turned over this country to some of the worst people on the face of the earth. And in six short years, they've all but destroyed what it took so long to build. I doubt there are too many who would want to come here today.

There are many here on DU who want to take back our country by force. Anytime you think that can be done, think of Tianaman Square. And yes, there are many who would have the courage to stand in front of a tank with only a shopping bag in hand. We don't know what became of that incredible man, but we do know the outcome of the Chinese uprising.

I truly believe that there is only one way to retake our country. A military coup. There are many among the leadership of our military who are honorable men who hate what our country has become and, I believe, would (and might even be planning) taking such action.

The big question is, what then? And this is where many of us might part ways. I believe that after imprisoning those responsible, -- the pols, the war profiteers and the billionaire enablers currently holding the levers of power, -- the military would turn our country back to us.

How? I don't know. But we are talking about a lot of people who are smarter than I am, who really believe in the country they have served, and most importantly, believe in that document written 221 years ago.

Perhaps the first step might be a period of calm and then a new set of elections to turn the country back to civilian rule. It won't be easy, but there's no question that it can be done.

All right, maybe I'm way off base here, maybe I'm an idealistic idiot and maybe none of this is practical or doable. Nonetheless, who would have believed six years ago that our democracy could be co-opted and virtually destroyed in such a short period of time?

What I've posted here is, I believe, a practical scenario for ripping our country away from the bloody claws of those who now hold it. I'd like to hear your thoughts on alternatives, or on the pros and cons of what I've set down here.
