The question is commonly phrased comething like this "Should Iran be allowed to have nukes?"

The assumption here is that Iran must somehow ask our permission to have nukes. Where did this come from? How did Bush's arrogence that the world needs our permission to exist permeate the discussion?

Now, it is true that Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. But to date, Iran has no nuclear material to make an atomic firecracker, much less a bomb. The have no plutonium reactors, either. The time estimates run the better part of a decade before they finally make a nuke.

If they're breaking the NNPT by not letting in the UN inspectors, then do some sanctions or something. If they pull out of the NNPT, then I don't know what we'll do.

Look, I think Iran having a nuke is a horrible bad idea because the government is a religious fundamentalist government headed up by a frothing nutjob.

I also think that US have a nuke right now is not a good idea either, also because OUR government is run by religious fundamentalist frothing nutjobs! I think we should give our nukes to the Swiss, just until Bush is out of office. We can put them in those vaults next to where all those great works of French art magically appeared sometime in the early 40's...
