If we can get the emergency LAVA passed, the next step after the ballots are marked would be to audit the counts.

The simplest of audits would be to stack the ballots in two separate piles: one for the republican candidate, the other for the democratic candidate.

Eyeballing the size of the stacks would tell you which candidate has the most votes.

The key in Florida would be to do this simple audit BEFORE the machine count!

Once stacked, the ballots would be fed into the machine one stack at a time, ie, all the republican votes together.

That should give you a pure count of one candidate. If there is a discrepancy (say 100 votes out of line) then you can demand the machine never be used again and force a hand count of all the ballots.
