I even wonder if O'Neill actually died during 9/11 or at all. The first time I ever heard O'Neill's name was when the NYT ran a story about how he had lost an important briefcase and was being chastised by the FBI for it. Then the briedcase mysteriously reappeared without anything missing.

Next I heard that he was fired/or quit from the FBI and took a job at the Towers. So there he was, conveniently placed, just prior to the "attack" on 9/11. Convenient, yes. But for whom?

Interestingly enough, O'Neill and Fitzgerald were also linked in their efforts.
When Fitzgerald was given his new position and put in charge of the Plame case I did some digging and find that he and O'Neill's paths crossed quite a bit in terms of their both being in the thick of things regarding investigations of Osama bin Laden and others who were purportedly (but never proven) to be behind the terror on U.S. soil and abroad. In fact no one in the Al Qaeda leadership has been brought to trial since 9/11. They have only been reported to have been killed. Fitzgerald left his job in NYC for his new position in Chicago just a couple of weeks before 9/11. And shortly after moving to Chicago he went to O'Neill's funeral service there (O'Neill was originally from Chicago). All very strange connections and circumstances........

I just think we will never know the truth of all this. But I feel pretty certain that what we're hearing is mostly fiction.
