Maybe and it is not only the fault of politicians. It is also the Media who needs the ratings and therefore the sensations, anything that appeals to the masses.
Micheal Moore made a pretty good point in his movie about how the people are scared by the Media.
Whenever I see scenes from American news shows, I tend to believe that Moore might be right.
