He said that god told him to invade Iraq. If he left how well would that bode with the religiously insane part of his base? I saw an article here a couple of days ago that McCain was thinking about an appearance at Bob Jones University - can't be mucking things up for those who might follow him.
It would fly in the face of his macho, swaggering posturing and pulling it out and swinging it at the rest of the world,, now wouldn't it? He can't admit that he made a mistake or he would lose (in my neck of the woods anyway) a large part of his aggressive male base.
