No, they're not assimilating BUT
Their kids are. That's how it works with immigrants (legal or not). My Polish ancestors didn't speak English when they came here. Italians just off the boat didn't either nor did Germans, etc. They found the different enclaves in the city where their fellow country men had settled and moved there and eked out a living for their kids, who did learn English.

This is anecdotal, but I live in Tulsa, which is getting heavily Mexican. Within five miles of my house, I can go to at least 2 dozen REAL Mexican restaurants, go dance salsa at a discoteca, go to a Mexican bakery, go to a Mexican butcher, or go shopping in a Mexican market that is in a re-furbished bowling alley. I'm a parttime entertainer - magic and balloon twisting, and the vast majority of my childrens' birthday parties are for the Mexican community. The adults call me because they can hire me in Spanish, but when I get to the party, 95% of the kids speak both Spanish and English.
