I don't think it's because lieberman "walks like a duck." Lieberman is still much more liberal than most (or all) senate Republicans. At the moment, Lieberman still claims that he will caucus with the dems, so he doesn't help the GOP increase their numbers in the senate.

Republicans have a lot of good reasons to support Lieberman, one being the fact that the GOP candidate is not viable, and another being that they need some coat-tails to save their three vulnerable connecticut Republicans in the House of Reps.

But I believe that the main reason why Republicans are supporting Lieberman because his very public position on the Iraq war, his very public support for Bush, and his very public trashing of Dems as weak on terrorism, all provide a huge amount political cover for Bush.
