9. I think in a way it was the internet
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 12:45 AM by FlavaKreemSnak
I know some people will say the 24 hour news channels but a long time ago people didn't know all the things we were doing as much, and now because of the internet we can all go read things from other countries where the point of view is different but also the things they will talk about that we don't here much. Like for instance lots of people on DU are super informed so they, you, whatever, know that a real long time ago when Iran wanted to have a democracy the CIA messed it up, and has been keeping them messed up ever since because the democracy would not have been pro western enough and England's businesses would have gotten less money and more expensive oil etc. And that is just one thing, you can read a lot more history now that is so different from the history we get in school, and the news is so different from our news.

And different people have a different point of view about all of that. Most people either ignore it and don't really read any of it and if they do they say oh well that is just a lie, or it is propaganda and they are questionable. Other people will say yes of course because we are America and so we have to make sure that everything goes like we want it to and all the other countries should be grateful and then other people read it and it makes them mad and sad at the same time, they just feel like s&$#. So there is division about those things and even the people who say it is a lie, or who say hell yeah because we are number one, you wonder how many of them really feel another way but don't want to admit it to themselves. So maybe that American spirit was not ever a true one, but you know there are people who don't read anything like news and on the internet they just do their email and surf like on AOL etc so I guess maybe those people still have it, like the people who don't even know that Israel was ever bombing Lebanon and just don't even think about the war on terror, they know there is one, and they will have a yellow ribbon on their car to support the troops but that's about it, like if you asked them what is Abu Ghraib they would say I don't know I think it is some guy from India that does hip-hop or maybe a clothes designer. Those are the ones who have the old school style American spirit.

the edit was just to fix some typos because I was in a hurry.
