There were, especially in the military, people that just wanted to bomb the fuck out of Cuba, take it over and make it a client state. you can imagine how apoplectic these people were when it came out that the USSR was heading for Cuba with nuke missiles..... kennedy held that bunch in check....and look where it got him.
the upshot of the CubanMissle Crisis: The USSR withdrew the missles but Kruschev basically got what he wanted....a promise from Kennedy there would be no invasion of Cuba.
