30. Better a "War On Poverty" Than A War On the Poor.
You do not have to validate Johnson's "War On Poverty" by referencing Kennedy's own uproductive humanitarian yearnings. Kennedy promised or implied a lot of things and delivered on almost none. It was Johnson who masterminded the liberal social agenda and in a big way. Kennedy's only concrete legacy was the Vietnam War. Great as were the achievements of the Great Society," how much greater would they have been if LBJ could have fought the "War On Poverty" without also having to fight Kennedy's war.
