1. The Democratic Party in Connecticut has made a choice
Couldn't say it any clearer than that. I don't think Lieberman will be receiving any support from establishment Democrats, and with the stink of loserdom on him, voters in Connecticut will no longer perceive him as their Senator, a perception that is very strong.

I think in the immediate aftermath of a close loss Lieberman has said many brave things for the benefit of his disappointed supporters about running as an independent. As the shock fades, and the political realities become clearer, I see Lieberman dropping his independent run and quietly going into retirement.
