16. Don't Get Me Started On Insurance! I Just Went Round & Round
last week trying to get insurance for my mother-in-law's mobile home. It's Citizens or it's NOTHING! One whole day and some nit-wit in Tallahassee tells me that I should contact my Representative!!!

She lives with us, but because she has Alzheimer's and her living will says her place can't be sold until she passes on, we have to keep it insured! Plus, because it's a mobile home older than 25 years, it HAS to be insured for at least $30,000.00! The mobile home is on a lake in Hernando, the land is worth some money.... but the mobile home.... a joke. Where once she paid around $350.00 a year, it's now $1374.00! I've had 3 different insurance companies in 4 years and just got a notice a couple of months ago telling me that POE is leaving, but since I'm paid up til Feb. '07 they will keep me on til then. Neither one of us has ever made any claims, but my insurance costs are phenomenal! I do live very close the the Gulf, but have yet to experience any hurricane damage. It has NEVER flooded here in the 21 years I've lived in this house, even though it HAS flooded in places further inland... I HAVE to have flood insurance too! I would anyway, but man do you get socked.

And taxes?? We own 5 acres further south in North Port, they went up from $1200.00 last year to $3100.00 this year! It's up for sale now, but the bubble is upon us!! I know the taxes aren't going to go down even though they say that many are lowering their prices by at least 2-3%, my taxes will probably go up. I just pray that when "season" is here this year that we can sell the land! And we are strickly middle-class, my husband worked for GTE before it was Verizon. I am glad that we bought the acreage back in '89, it was very cheap and it was a good investment and I do think it will sell some day. Tomorrow would be nice.

My daughter lives in a deed-restricted place and she absolutely hates it now. No yard signs, no bumper stickers, grass can't grow over a certain height and on and on!

I truly wish something could be done about the insurance though! Oh, one more thing this nit-wit told me when I told him she only has SS as income... he said we could either pay it for her or she could do without! He was ALL HEART, just my kind of guy!!
