2. Texas schools are fully funded via the Lottery

When they rolled out the lottery here in Texas, a stiff opposition was raised by religious and anti-gambling groups. The one thing that sold most people on the lottery was that the proceeds would benefit our schools.

Now that Lottery has been going for over a decade, we can see how these additional funds have aided the Texas school system.

"Texas jumped two spots - improving from 41st in 2004 to 39th in 2005 - in a ranking of state public education, but it still lags behind much of the country, according to a report released last week by a group of lawmakers." Source

Wow. What a difference that funding has made.
